Investiture: Composition Competition

Barony of Carolingia, 8th June, A.S. XXXVII (2002)

decorative bar

In conjunction with the upcoming Baronial Investiture in Carolingia on June 8th, there will be a "Composition Competition".

The composition should be in the form of poetry or song and submitted ahead of time (sorry, but we won't be able to judge from performances at the event). If music is your medium, then you may submit the score, or a tape, or a multimedia file, but please also send a textfile of the lyrics as well. And the more esoteric the filetype, the more time you should allow for us to find a way to view it.

The subject matter should be any of the following: the out-going coronets (Aquel of Darksted Wood and Johanna Dudley), the in-coming coronet (Jehan du Lac), the Barony of Carolingia, and/or the joys and pains of leading a barony.

There are two categories: (1) in a period style, of any period covered by the SCA, and (2) filk and fun. PLEASE TELL ME WHICH CATEGORY YOU THINK YOU'RE ENTERING!

All entries will be displayed at the event unless the author requests otherwise. Winning entries in the first category will be presented/performed during the event if time permits. Winning entries in both categories will be published in the newsletter and on the web if given the authors' permission. You do not need to be at the event!

Entries may be submitted to investiture@dragonbear.com, or to Carol Hanson at 9 Newbern Ave., Wilmington, MA 01887. I would very much prefer receiving all entries by Wednesday, June 5th. If you are in the throes of bardic passion and can't quite finish by then, let me know and we may end up accepting late entries but those may not have time for our full appreciation.

Prizes to be determined, but they'll be good stuff.

(...and we've got sooo much cordial...)
