Investiture: Activities

Barony of Carolingia, 8th June, A.S. XXXVII (2002)

Court:
It's an Investiture, so of course there'll be court! Filled with music and pagentry suitable to the occasion. We will be honored to have their Majesties, Darius Orientalis and Roxane Farabi, with Baron Aquel of Darksted Wood and Baroness Johanna Dudley, and our new lord, Jehan du Lac, who will be invested as fourth Baron of Carolingia. If you have business with the court, please contact the Golden Griffin herald, Baron Tibor of Rock Valley.

Martial Activities:
For the martially inclined and those just who enjoy watching, there will be archery and thrown weapons, fencing, an elaborate Pas d'Armes, and equestrian games and procession. These will not be scheduled opposite court; check the Schedule page later for details if there's an activity you don't want to miss.

Thrown weapons and archery will start as soon as they can be set up in the morning and will stop for court. At that point the archery range will be broken down and there will be no more archery during the day. Thrown weapons may restart if there is interest and marshals available.

The Pas d'Armes, fencing, and equestrian activities are all scheduled for the same part of the afternoon. Fencing and equestrian will not be set up as formal tourneys, but will be available for the practice and enjoyment of the participants and the entertainment of the spectators.

Arts and Sciences:
We will have an Arts & Sciences display area open to anyone who wishes to bring something (you don't need to confirm participation) with forms available for comments. There will be guild display tables and a procession of guilds during the day. Our excellent musicians will perform during the day and evening for entertainment and dancing. There is also a Composition Competition for a bardic celebration of the occasion.

Children:
There is a children's activities coordinator who will have crafts and games, but this is not a baby-sitting service. The site is a lovely combination of open and wooded areas that most kids will enjoy. It also borders a lake. We do not have the use of it and it will not be monitored, so you may want to keep an eye out for your children wandering in that direction.

Merchants:
Merchants are very welcome. Please contact us at investiture@dragonbear.com ahead of time so we can have a good idea of what space will be needed.

Other Activities:
There will be dancing in the afternoon before the feast and entertainments in the evening after the feast. Other activities may appear without necessarily giving much notice: bocce? a foot race? a tug-of-war? Wandering performers would be an excellent addition to the event so feel free to come and demonstrate your juggling skills or fortune-telling. If you have a more structured activity that you would like to arrange, please contact us at investiture@dragonbear.com.
