Designs, Period

A Book of Counted Cross-Stitch Patterns

"A Book of Medieval, Renaissance, and Heraldic Patterns for Needlework, with Many Charted from Original Embroidery Pieces of the Period."

The third edition of Designs, Period is now on-line by clicking here to get to over 250 medieval and Renaissance counted-stitch patterns. This collection does not contain any patterns from pattern books of the period except where they were found on actual embroidery. (For a magnificent collection of pattern book charts, I strongly recommend Kim Salazar's The New Carolingian Modelbook.)

Designs, Period was self-published in 1996 (in GBC binding, 150 pages, 8-1/2" by 11") and originally sold for $15. For a while I was trying to sell it for $12 to get rid of my stock. But we put the box in storage (along with half of the rest of our stuff) when we were selling our house and moving to another and I still haven't located it two years later. Unfortunately I kept hoping I would find the box, so I never removed the information on ordering the book. If you ever sent me a check, it was never cashed and has been destroyed.

Meanwhile, I've been collecting many more patterns from period needlework, both from photographs and from the actual articles. I will eventually get around to a 4th edition (using real counted-stitch software instead of faked graph paper), self-published or not, depending on who's interested. :-)

If you'd like to be informed when the 4th edition is available, keep checking this site. If you have comments or you'd like any other information, you can send e-mail or snail-mail to:
